16.07.2024
Japheth Karengeka is from Western but works and lives in Nairobi. He works as a construction worker and boda boda rider. He has been doing construction work for about 17 years. whenever there is little construction work, he works as a boda boda rider. He is a father of four children, two are in campus, one is in secondary, and another primary school, at the time this story was done.
Japheth came to know about Mogo through his friends and he decided to reach out when he was doing poorly and wanted to buy a boda boda. He bought the boda boda in 2021 and was given a 2-year agreement but he was able to pay in 14 months.
When his daughter joined campus, Japheth did not have enough money. He received a call from Mogo and was told that he can get money using his boda boda’s logbook. He followed up on this and he was able to get a boda boda logbook loan to pay school fees for his daughter. This helped him a lot. His daughter is studying power engineering at Zetech University, and he is incredibly happy because the loan helped him keep his daughter in school.
Paying for the loan has not been difficult because when he leaves his construction job, he rides his boda boda as a side hustle and he can pay for the loan daily or weekly. When he finishes paying for this loan, he wants to open an electronics shop, and he will come back to Mogo to get another boda boda logbook loan.
His advice to anyone who has a boda boda and wants to start or expand a business can go to Mogo and he will get helped.
